Hey guys! The winter holiday is upon us, and I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of you are dying from deadlines (I know we are!) Therefore, we are holding a bake sale on Thursday 11th December outside the IoA. 25% of our proceeds will go towards the charity Shelter. Come get some yummy Christmas goodies to sustain you through that deadline stress!

SAMS held a PhD application workshop last Wednesday, in room 209 for all who were interested in PhD applications. It was a success and had a great turnout! Many thanks to the SAMS officers who organised, the speakers, and everyone who showed up!
Lisa Daniel (IoA Admissions), Andrew Reynolds (IoA Tutor), and 2 PhD Students (Jason Peters & Tom Siek) spoke about their experiences and tips for PhD applications. If you would like to see some photos, click here! Hope to see you at our other events! Dear All,
Just a reminder that the Society for Archaeological Masters Students is holding a FREE conference presenting the research of Masters student within the IoA and other universities on May 8th and 9th. The conference will have FREE refreshments, lunch, and wine receptions (generously funded by JFIGS), which are ideal opportunities to network and mingle with other graduate students. There will also be keynote lectures by Sue Hamilton (the future director of the IoA), and Marcos Martinon-Torres. Come out and support your Masters students while enjoying free food and wine!! See you soon! SAMS Conference Committee, Stephanie Boonstra and Siobhan Shinn Click to see the 2nd Annual SAMS Conference Programme. Attached below are PDFs of the conference programme and schedule.
Professor Ian Freestone generously agreed to let us upload the slides from his presentation about thesis writing on Tuesday (February 25th).
It can be downloaded here. It’s a little wobbly, a little thin, but meet SAMS mascot! It doesn’t have a name…yet. Stay tuned for our skeleton naming event in the new year! Although it is nameless, the skeleton has joined us in supporting the IoA and by attending our winter social. If you keep seeing this skeleton around, don’t worry – you’re not crazy. Give a shout out for the SAMS mascot! We are pleased to announce that we are opening registration of those interested in participating in the Masters Fieldwork Course 2014. This course is open to students in all degrees offered by the Institute of Archaeology, and is aimed at those with minimal-to-no experience of excavation, although those with more experience will also find it fun!
The very first MA fieldwork trip took place in July 2013, organised by students who wished to integrate fieldwork into the MA curriculum. Due to the great success of this trip, the Institute has approved an annual MA Fieldwork course, which will be co-ordinated in part by SAMS. The provisional details for the 2014 trip are outlined below.
Please register your interest with: [email protected]. Any inquiries regarding course details can also be sent to this address. Mark Roberts will run information talks later in the school year and following this a firm list of applicants will be composed. |
